![]() New dark blue pearl and red pearl shades replaced the former solid red and metallic blue hues. "Nighthawk Black" was added to the list of paint choices, while "Passion Orange" disappeared. Exterior alterations included a new front bumper, smoothed off rear bumper, and a smaller plastic radio antenna on the rear of the roof. In 1999, for the 2000 model year, the European, Australian and Asian CR-V models featured more drastic changes. The rear foglamp was also reconfigured as a fourth and fifth brake light. Honda customized the model for sale to include a face-to-face third-row seating, making it a seven-seater vehicle to take advantage of the tax regulations in the country. Indonesian market CR-V was released in 1999 as a locally assembled model. Drivetrain options were front-wheel drive or Honda's Real Time AWD. The EX included anti-lock brakes and 15-inch alloy wheels over the LX trim. In most countries, CR-Vs had a chrome grille however, in the United States, the grille was made out of the same black plastic as the bumpers. All models featured plastic cladding covering the front bumper, rear bumper, and fender wells. Inside, the rear seats were able to fold down, and a picnic table was stowed in the rear floor area. The vehicle's suspension was double-wishbone, while the rear used a trailing arm-based multilink system. The chassis and suspension was largely similar to the 4th-Gen Honda Civic Shuttle (Wagon) with a unibody design with fully independent suspension. The engine used a one-piece cylinder sleeve construction unique from any other B-series engine. Outer dimensions for this engine would be identical to the Integra's 1.8 L engine, but internally the engine had a larger 84 mm (3.3 in) bore vs 81 mm (3.2 in) for the Integra, to add the extra displacement needed to produce more torque. Upon introduction, the model had only one trim level, which would later be known as the LX model trim it was powered by the 2.0-liter straight-four B20B producing 126 hp (94 kW) at 5400 rpm and 133 lb⋅ft (180 N⋅m) of torque at 4800 rpm. For the North American market, it was displayed at the 1996 Chicago Auto Show and went on sale in February 1997. When the CR-V was introduced in Japan in October 1995 it was sold only at Honda Verno and Honda Primo dealerships and exceeded Japanese government's compact car regulations regarding exterior dimensions (maximum width of 1,700 mm (66.9 in), therefore incurred a more expensive annual road tax obligation. ![]() The first generation CR-V or RD1 was Honda's first in-house designed sport utility vehicle by Hiroyuki Kawase. It is currently Honda's best-selling vehicle in the world, and the second best-selling SUV globally in 2020. Īs of 2022, the CR-V is positioned between the smaller ZR-V (marketed as HR-V in North America) and the larger North American market Passport/ Pilot or the Chinese market Avancier/ UR-V. Honda states "CR-V" stands for "Comfortable Runabout Vehicle," while the term "Compact Recreational Vehicle" is used in a British car review article that was republished by Honda, associating the model name with the Sports Utility Vehicle abbreviation of SU-V. ![]() The CR-V is also produced in Wuhan for the Chinese market by Dongfeng Honda, and also marketed as the Breeze in China for the version produced at Guangzhou by Guangqi Honda. Honda began producing the CR-V in Sayama, Japan, and Swindon, United Kingdom, for worldwide markets, adding North American manufacturing sites in East Liberty, Ohio, United States, in 2007 El Salto, Jalisco, Mexico, in late 2007 (ended in early 2017) Alliston, Ontario, Canada, in 2012 and Greensburg, Indiana, United States, in February 2017. Initial models of the CR-V were built using the same platform as the Civic. The Honda CR-V (also sold as the Honda Breeze in China since 2019) is a compact crossover SUV manufactured by Japanese automaker Honda since 1995.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL) is an evidence-driven framework for improving and optimizing learning for all students. They could put their time to better use, though. When a student is pigeonholed as a particular “type” of learner, and their lessons are all prepared with that in mind, they could be missing out on other learning opportunities with a better chance of success.Īdapting instruction to individual students’ “learning styles” is no small task-and teachers who attempt to do so are clearly motivated to find the best way to help their students. It’s no surprise, then, that well-intentioned educators (and parents and caregivers) buy into the concept as well. Unfortunately, the myth has become so prevalent that the majority of papers written about learning styles are based on the assumption that matching teaching style to learning style is desirable (Newton, 2015). In fact, the idea that “students learn best when teaching styles are matched to their learning styles” earned a spot in 50 Great Myths of Popular Psychology (Lilienfeld, Lynn, & Beyerstein, 2009), alongside “Extrasensory perception is a well-established scientific phenomenon” and “Our handwriting reveals our personality traits.” Having been embraced for several decades, though, “learning styles” has moved beyond fad to what experts refer to as “neuromyth,” one of many “commonly accepted, erroneous beliefs based on misunderstandings of neuroscience that contribute to pseudoscientific practice within education (Ruhaak & Cook, 2018). The brain processes information in very complex and nuanced ways that can’t be so simply generalized.įads are common in education. Most likely, students are best served when a variety of strategies are employed in a lesson.Īs appealing as a framework like VARK is-relatively easy to conceptualize and quick to assess-everyone engages in different modes of learning in various ways. The best approach for them may even vary day-to-day. A single student may learn best with one approach in one subject and a different one in another. Simply put, students’ learning preferences as identified via questionnaires do not predict the singular, best way to teach them. In fact, a student’s “learning style” may not even predict the way they prefer to be taught or the way they actually choose to study on their own (Newton & Salvi, 2020). ![]() Study after study has shown that matching instructional mode to a student’s supposedly identified “learning style” does not produce better learning outcomes. By placing students in categories that reflect “preferred learning styles,” we run the risk of oversimplifying the complex nature of teaching and learning to the detriment of our students. While this brief survey may provide some insights for teachers, we must be wary of overestimating the value of the results. Based on their responses, the system classifies them as Visual, Auditory, Read-write, and/or Kinesthetic learners and recommends specific learning strategies. Students answer 25 multiple-choice questions that range from how they like their teachers to teach (discussions and guest speakers, textbooks and handouts, field trips and labs, or charts and diagrams) to how they would give directions to a neighbor’s house (draw a map, write out directions, say them aloud, or walk with the person) (VARK Learn Limited, 2021). One of the most popular learning styles inventories used in schools is the VARK system (Cuevas, 2015). More than 70 different systems have been developed that use student questionnaires/self-reports to categorize their supposed learning preferences. The “learning styles” theory makes a big leap, suggesting that students will learn better if they are taught in a manner that conforms to their preferences. ![]() People can also have preferences in the way they receive information-Joan may prefer to read an article while Jay may rather listen to a lecture. It’s true that people have fairly stable strengths and weaknesses in their cognitive abilities, such as processing language or visual-spatial stimuli. That’s a problem-because research tells us that this approach doesn’t work to improve learning. Studies show that an estimated 89% of teachers believe in matching instruction to a student’s preferred learning style (Newton & Salvi, 2020). The concept of “learning styles” has been overwhelmingly embraced by educators in the U.S. ![]()

Silent Threat is an expansion for FreeSpace 1, also released in 1998. The prefixes "Descent" and "Conflict" were used in some titles because there was already an archive tool called FreeSpace on the market. It is good to note that although in certain regions the full title of the game is Descent: FreeSpace – The Great War, FS1 has very little to do with the Descent game series. Mod tools were released for the use of players and the game itself shipped with FreeSpace Editor (FRED) that allowed every player to design and create their own missions. Also crucial to the success of FS1 was the excellent mod support. The controls were easy to assume and the plot was quite compelling, as well as leaving a few questions in the air. ![]() Though it didn't offer much innovation in terms of gameplay and story, all aspects of the game worked well.
